PANDA

happy
Most kids in Japan walk to school; even to kindergarten. For preschoolers, it's likely a little dangerous, so around the area there are special pre-school buses that go to and from the preschool, made only for them. They're much smaller than regular buses and are usually happy bright colours.
Today, I saw one shaped like a panda. I kid you not, the bus was a panda. It even had ears on top and a tail on the back. It was like the Neko-bus in Totoro except it was a panda. These kids get to ride a panda to preschool. This has been added to my list of Best Things Ever.
That is all.

Anyway, as you know it was my birthday on Friday. I was anticipating a really horrid birthday because I woke up and it was raining and gloomy, but it got better during the day. I played Project Diva for most of the morning on the shiny new (ie second-hand, but hey it still has that sticker thing on the screen even) PSP (and it is the most giddy fun, gratuitious amount of fanmoeservice ever). That night, me and a bunch of friends (besides Yuka there was Elaine from the Philippines, Chen from China and Charlene from Singapore) It was one of those so-called Italian restaurants with the all-you can eat buffets. I say so-called because Japan seriously doesn't know how to Italy (WHO PUTS CORN ON PIZZA. EVERY SINGLE PIZZA). (I will probably go into pizza-withdrawal here because I'm too much of a pizza-snob to even call this stuff pizza, which may be a good thing as I am trying to slim down. I will also probably draw some moronic Hetalia fancomic about this phenomenon.) Anyway the dessert there was really good (there was a chocolate fountain!) but I probably ate way too much and felt a bit sick afterwards, but it was a good kind of sick, so hey! Plus I got birthday cards from my nan and aunt, as well as a package from home (my sister's card, a charm bracelet and a crapload of Australian candy! Due to my afforementioned efforts to try and slim down, I will probably share a lot of this.

Sumos and other stuff, such as Hetalia juice.

We also got to talk to the state champion, who is actually Mongolian, which was pretty cool. And a field trip of adorable little kids came later, and a bunch of them were wearing sumo belts over their clothes that they must have made in class.
Anyway, Dazaifu was a really pretty place, and since it was only about half an hour from Fukuoka, I want to see if my family want to go there when they come to visit in December.
The day before that, anyway, I went to Tenjin again but I actually had an excuse this time; it was Sunday and so the Tenjin postoffice was the only one that was open and I wanted to send all these family postcards off, because otherwise I wouldnt get a chance for a while. Of course I went to Animate and Mandarake again because I am completely hopeless. Loot from Mandarake this time: Two more Hetalia doujinshi (someone needs to stop me, for serious) and a Hazumu figure; that is, Hazumu from Kashimashi, and I had never even seen that figure until I saw it there. It's absolutely gorgeous and a decent size...and it was only 840 yen. I kind of like Mandarake a lot but I seriously need to limit my visits there. At Animate, they had that Hetalia canned juice I saw someone post about on the LJ comm a while back...so I had to get some of the Italy variety. It's grape flavoured and actually isnt half bad. Although i mainly got it for the can because I'm a sucker for this kind of obscure merchandise.(remember back in 07 I got those Death Note cakes in Akihabara?) I also got some more inking pens and D.Gray-man highlighters (being the first thing I have bought from Tenjin that I actually needed). I had a nice long look at a box of 36 copic markers though...only they were insanely expensive (way more than what I paid for the 76 neopiko markers), plus I dont want my Sai book to go to waste.
This Saturday we get to go to an elementary school 8D

Happier things include the fact that this Saturday is a halloween party, and before that I`m going to go to Canal City with Yuka. (Poketards in my friend list; I am going to go to Fukuoka Pokemon Center, so I will take photos for you.)
On the weekend we had another study trip to Nishi-Arita where I did such fun things as not participate in rice harvesting and not go on a mountain hike due to my leg. I also got kind of sick from the bus-ride because the road was a bit windy, but on the plus side the teachers kept giving me coke to help my stomach. We also went to Arita Porcelain Park, which was really awesome looking, although it was a bit late at that time of the day so it was a little awesome looking, although it was a bit late at that time of the day so it was a little desserted. It was all done up like a European town, though...except for this one building where they actually made the pottery and stuff. We did some painting there, although none of us were very good at it. The inn we stayed at that night was far better than the last study trip; my group got an actual japanese-style room this time which was quite nice (it had a tv, for one thing, although there wasnt really anything on except Chibi Maruko-chan). Most importantly it had a good hot spring, which was actually at a sensible temperature for bathing so I was able to go in. It also had a Haagen Dazs icecream vending machine which was pretty awesome.

The internet at the kaikan is made of many different types of fail and I really want to hurry up and get my own net in my room already, as I hate using it...
Anyway, my leg is pretty much better, so no problems there. Nothing that interesting has really happened, though, because the classes have now started up. I was dealt a massive blow to my (meagre) confidence in my (crappy) Japanese skills by being put into Japanese 3 which was full of people that had only started studying it the year before or something, and it was frankly embarassing. Did I really do that badly on the placement test? I think it has a lot to do with the fact that they gave us hardly any time to complete the test so I had a whole sheet that wasnt completed; but honestly.... I managed to challenge this, after looking at the class overview which was nothing but stuff i learnt back in year 11 or so, and was able to move up to Japanese 4. Its still not a great position, but I`m happy where I am now because I have a bunch of friends in that class (there was no one I even knew in J3), it doesnt start at 8:50am (although it doesnt finish until 6:10pm which is a bummer) and it only recquires 1 textbook instead of 3. But fff the classes here go for like 90 minutes each and I`m so tired by the end of the day... plus theres a crapload of reading to do.
I also met with Yuka again; who had just got back from Nagasaki. She got me a present; some kind of bath bomb thing from the aquarium. I`ll probably use it on the weekend.
On Monday I went exploring on Meiko again to find new places i havent been within cycling distance of the kaikan. I found some market streets and had lunch there, and as I finished two friendly stray black cats came up mewing at me. I felt bad that I had no food to give them now, but they walked over to a plate of fish-heads that a nearby storeowner had obviously left out for them, which made me happy.
On the way back a bunch of little japanese boys were playing on the path, and one came up to me with a stick all `hora, sawattemiru?` (check it out, wanna touch?) On the stick was a giant praying mantis; perhaps he was trying to scare me with it or something, so I just told him that it was cool and touched it. I still dont know what that was all about, but it was kind of funny.
Also, I keep seeing little japanese girls riding unicycles around the town; it must be some kind of fad or something right now. (since most are in pretty pastel colours) I have no idea how they do it, though; since they make it look so easy, like they`re just riding a regular bike around.

Today, my leg feels better, because I could actually walk again, although it still hurts, so with luck it will be better by Monday. This morning I got the bus back to Youme-Town to pick up my phone, and en route visited the Kinokuniya and picked up the first Maria+Holic. And even though my leg still hurts a bit, and I can't use Meiko until it gets better, I do not care because of one little thing, something I checked multiple times with Yuka and the shop guy to check that it really was a free service and that I didn't have to pay any sneaky hidden fees, as this was the second cheapest phone in the store and all, and yes, it is free: My phone has a fully-functioning TV in it.

Stuff of the past few days

blah
However, riding a bike is a lot of fun, and I haven't done it in years. It can be tiring, but I think it's worth it; and this is coming from someone who rarely exercises at all, if ever. There are so many songs on my ipod that just seem to sound so much better on a bike too....I will be sad when I have to give Meiko away, as obviously I can't take her back to lolstralia.
The other reason nothing much has been happening is because Kyushu seems to be getting the tail-end of that horrific Typhoon up north you may or may not have heard about on the news. It was so windy last night when I went out to get dinner that I thought i was going to blow away. (Dinner, by the way, was KFC, because I wanted to bring something back to the kaikan. I think the KFC here may actually taste better; it doesn't seem anywhere near as greasy. However, the portions are incredibly small (very little burgers), even though the price is about the same. Also, I am absolutely addicted to fanta melon soda. My sister said it was in the UK as well, although I thought it was something only in japan. I can never seem to find bottles/cans of it though; I've so far only seen it at restaurants in drink dispensers, and as drink choices at fast food places such as the aforementioned KFC. It has the distinctively green appearance of toilet cleaner, but man does it taste good. I am going to miss it so much when I come home.)
Classes started yesterday, although the class today (Crime and Justice in Japanese Society or something to that effect) was cancelled for some reason or other, which is why I am here, netting it up and too scared to go outside in the scary wind.

ffffff it figures that as soon as I get some free time to upload photos my laptop decides to be the only laptop in the computer room that doesn`t want to connect to the internet Dx
Anyway, I suppose some of you want to hear about my first venture into Tenjin, in which I did many nerd things and spent a lot of money. Be warned that the following entrance is full of fantarded geekery, so you`re welcome to skip it.

Making More Friends And Stuff

I've been making friends with two more girls whose names currently escape me as I'm a bit tired, one is the Swede and the other is possibly the Latvian if memory serves me correct (but may not be) They have an awesome little 2-person appartment that is a hundred times nicer than me and Charlene's tiny ones so we are jealous of them for that xD With those girls and our tutots we went out to lunch at a small restaurant which was decent, although ironically even though it was the most expensive meal I've gotten so far (still only 600 yen), it was the least nice.
After that we did a bit more shopping and once again I searched for SoulSilver. On the way to the shopping complex where there is a 100 yen shop and two electronics shops and a grocery store, I saw the same cat I saw on the first day, in the same place. And then again on the way back. I hope he's always there, because he's cute and friendly and he let me cuddle him. SoulSilver was absolutely sold out no matter where I looked, so I was considering giving up for a while.
Tomorrow we are going on a trip to a town near Mount Aso, a few hours away I think. We stay at an inn with an onsen and stuff. So, at the supermarket we got some candy to eat on the bus; I got chestnut Dessert pocky, some purin flavoured chocolates that are shaped like purin, and a tiny pack of strawberry chocolate ball things. I love how cheap japanese candy is; their Kitkats are 99 yen. In lolstralia they're nearly $3, and it sucks hardcore.
Tonight, I decided to check the Toys r Us again just to see if they'd restocked their HeartGolds/SoulSilver games.
They had.
I am jubilant.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
Attempting to calm down to enable recollection of past events that are probably worth documenting here...... okay.
These past two weeks, I have been doing volunteer work at my old Primary ('elementary' for you lolmericans) School. There is probably a similar entry to this in the archives because this isn't the first time. Frankly, I love my primary school. It's the period of time where most of the kids are all nice and angelic (they turn horrible once they get to High School. Note that I hate my High School and just setting foot in the place now makes me feel ill. The only reason I have to set foot in it is to wait for mum, because she works there), and it also had the most awesome teachers (as opposed to High School, because all the awesome teachers left one after the other, likely to find a better school. There are a handful of cool teachers left, though) Anyway, volunteer work. I spent the time mostly tailing Mrs S, my 'teacher's aide' from yesteryear. This amazing woman is the one who helped me through school and succeeded where many other teachers failed when it came to my 'learning difficulty' (read: assburgers) Suffice to say, if it wasn't for her constant attention I would probably have been expelled somewhere down the line.
So, my duties were the following: working with these two -adorable- year 3 kids who I will call A (girl) and R (boy)(Apparently, I have the ability to empathise with these kids because I know exactly how they feel, because 12 years ago, I was them), helping out two more adorable kindergarteners E and P (both girls) with 'speech' (these two apparently couldn't talk when they first came to school, so they go through a lot of speaking exercises and need help making various sounds), supervising a reading group with a year 3 class (which was...admittedly painful for me because it always makes me sad when people of this age can't seem to read as well as they should. They were trying, though), supervising more readers in year 1, helping out in the library (Lord knows my primary school has the single greatest Librarian to grace the planet, Mrs Mc), at lunchtimes teaching some kids how to draw, and then lastly teaching some year 6 and year 4 classes Japanese. A bit more detail and wibbliness after the cut for those who want to hear more.

For example, earlier this month I went to SMASH. I probably should have said that back earlier this month, but time flies when you are sitting at home being a bum. (Seriously, where the hell did the month go...?) As said before (probably), I was cosplaying Greece. I met some awesome fellow Hetaliatards such as
Anyway, back on the subject of sitting at home being a bum. This is because the Japanese second semester starts much later than it does here, so my break is a bit long. In other words, I go to Kyuushu in about a month now, and am now proceeding to Freak the Hell Out. I never ended up getting a job (surprise, surprise) (although am going to see if I can volunteer at the primary school again for the sake of doing something with myself), but I did get a scholarship which takes care of a lot of the fees and gives me a reasonable amount each month.
In other news it is about 2 weeks until my cat's 14th birthday. Then Yoko will have been with me for about 2/3rds of my life! Hang in there, old girl.
And I think my sister gave me her stupid cold. D<
